Belagin lies within the Belagin System in Gatespace. Its islands rise through an atmosphere of cloud and mist, offering temporary homes to people, plants, and animals.

The island cycle

Most islands are short-lived. Their gradual descent gives inhabitants time to migrate, while new islands arise and fast-growing plants take root.

An unanswered mystery

The true cause of the islands’ flotation is not known. Thermal lift is one theory, rather than an established explanation. The deeper one travels beneath the cloud layers, the hotter it becomes.

Life in the sky

Humans, Avariels, elves, and other peoples share this world. Travel and migration connect their communities. Pack animals help humans and Avariels carry goods between their homes.
